NUSRI China overview

NUSRI China is a major endeavour by National University of Singapore (NUS), in partnership with the local governments in China, to establish research institutes focusing on research and innovation, education and enterprise in the various regions of China.

NUS Research Institutes in China

In 2011, NUS launched NUSRI China

Its first overseas research institute in Suzhou (NUSRI SZ), together with Suzhou Industrial Park Administrative Committee.

Following from the success of NUSRI (SZ), NUS went on to establish NUSRI Fuzhou (NUSRI FZ) with People’s Government of Fuzhou Municipal, the Education Department of Fujian Province and Tianjin University in 2019, and NUSRI Chongqing (NUSRI CQ) with Chongqing Liangjiang New Area Administrative Committee in 2020. Further, NUS is planning to establish NUSRI Guangzhou (NUSRI GZ) with People’s Government of Guangzhou Municipality and China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City Administrative Committee in 2021.

NUSRI China provides the access to talent development for Masters and PhDs and the opportunity for inroads in innovation and enterprise for the Yangtze River Delta, the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle and the Guangdong-Hongkong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

NUSRI China is by far NUS’ largest research programme outside Singapore.

The programme involves a sizeable number of NUS faculty professors supervising PhDs and postdoctoral researchers and participating in research projects actively, as well as collaborating with researchers and industry practitioners from China and the rest of the world.
