WARM WELCOME TO PHD STUDENTS OF AY2022!
The hybrid opening ceremony attracted over 400 students, PIs and staff affiliated with the TJU-NUS Joint Institute in Fuzhou (Fuzhou RI). Fuzhou’s Vice Mayor Sun Xiaolan presided at the event.
MESSAGES FROM THE SPEAKERS
Prof Chen Tsuhan, Deputy President (Research & Technology) of NUS sent a video message to welcome the new students. In his speech, Prof Chen recognised the achievements of the Fuzhou RI since its inception 4 years ago, and encouraged all to work together for a better
post-pandemic world.
Prof Hu Wenping, Executive Vice President of TJU, in his address, highlighted to the students and the PIs the mottos of both universities, inspiring all to steadily pursue a visionary and innovative research journey.
Student representative Wang Congyong (‘2019) spoke on behalf of all students, thanking the firm support of all collaboration parties of Fuzhou RI and showing his determination to better serve the society in return. PI representative Prof Yang Quanhong shared his unique experience of scientific discovery, motivating all students to do their part for the world peace and the sustainable development of our society.

SIDE-LINE EVENT AT NUS
Organised by the students themselves, four PhD student representatives, Gao Yaru (‘2019), Zhang Boyi (‘2020), Maxim Dickieson (‘2021) and Lyu Jingkuan (‘2021) vividly shared their research, study and living experience during the PhD programme with the new students. The Q&A session was actively participated by both the students and the PIs.
Thanks to the generous support of NUS Graduate School and NUSRI China Programme Office, the event ended on a high note with a joyful networking lunch, an excellent opportunity for the participants to make new acquaintances as well as to catch up with old friends.
